Notes
The cover page is the title page. Item not originally paginated. No copyright page found. Some letters are cut off at spine due to being previously bound.
See page after title for typed index to letters. But be aware that not all letters are represented on this page, and there may be some discrepancy as to the typed dates.
The letters have been scanned in date order, despite them not always being in date order in the index.
That said, there were some letters where the response was attached. Cases where the response could not be separated has caused these items to appear out of order date-wise. It was considered important to keep these related and physically attached letters together, even if it breaks the date sequence, as they were present that way in the Archive, and as this may facilitate readability.

- Notes_1
- This is part of the American Numismatic Society's Early Correspondence, which generally covers the period 1858-1908. There is no correspondence for the years 1860-1862. (The American Numismatic Society was known as the American Numismatic and Archaeological Society at the time.)
- Notes_2
- A typed index of the correspondence was prepared for Howard Adelson to assist in his writing of a history of the American Numismatic Society, which was published in 1958. Relevant portions of this index are shown with each chronological grouping of letters.
